help from Dustin Hermanson who gained credit for his 17th save. Zach

Mark Teixeira had 3 base hits at Petco Park as the San Diego Padres came back
dramatically to top the Chicago (NL) Cubs by the score of 5 to 4.

San Diego came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 9th
inning with 3 runs using 2 hits. Teixeira led off the inning for San Diego
when he stroked a base-hit. Paul Konerko stepped up to the plate and he drew
a walk. Eric Chavez struck out, unable to help the rally. Juan Uribe came
up and he lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 4th of the season)
making San Diego victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.
Despite losing, Chicago (NL) out-hit San Diego 11 to 7.

Chad Qualls(2-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Danys Baez(0-1)
suffered the loss in relief. Tim Stoops was all smiles after the ballgame,
'It sure was looking pretty dim there for a while, but our guys never gave up
- and neither did our fans - they kept cheering us on. What a sweet win!'

Catcher John Buck cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Dave Williams came
through with a solid 6 and one third innings at Petco Park where the San
Diego Padres beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 6 to 1.

The San Diego fans enjoyed the offense provided by Buck. He lifted one out of
the park for a two run home run in the 2nd inning, ripped a solo home run
(his 4th of the season) in the 7th inning and doubled scoring a run in the

Roger Clemens tossed a complete game and Wilson Betemit had 3 base hits and 2
RBI at Petco Park as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the San Diego Padres by the
count of 6 to 3.

Pittsburgh scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 3 runs using 3
hits. Mark Ellis led off and he stroked a single. David Dellucci came to
the plate and drew a walk. Betemit then doubled resulting in a run. Hee
Seop Choi was up next and he delivered a single as another two runners

recorded, Mark Teixeira was the sparkplug when he doubled. After another
out, Juan Uribe came up and he cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his
3rd of the season). The early run support proved sufficient for Kevin
Correia(4-2) and San Diego. That was all the run support Correia required.
Correia got relief help from Dustin Hermanson who was excellent in relief and
gained credit for his 15th save.
