St. Louis Cardinals @ San Diego Padres

70's Retro Night at Petco Park. Both teams wore uniforms from the 1972 season: Padres in mustard, and the Cardinals looked a little more traditional, but I didn't get good photos of their throwbacks. There were crazy scoreboard pictures again: Mike Cameron, Khalil Greene, etc. They also gave 70's hairstyles to some of the Cardinals: Albert Pujols, Scott Spiezio, etc. From my seats, the Padres yellow uniforms really stood out against the green ballfield. Russell Branyan hit two home runs in the game. The Padres ended up winning tonight, which might have been better than the actual 1972 Padres could have done.

Colorado Rockies @ San Diego Padres

After 25 years, I finally make it to my first Opening Day game for the Padres. It was a fun night, even though the Padres ending up losing to the Rockies 4-3. But we got a free hat out of the deal. Appropriate that Trevor Hoffman is on the season's first ticket, considering the record-setting season he had last year.

Tony Gwynn Classic

I'm down to take part in anything honoring Tony Gwynn, Mr. Padre, and my all-time favorite baseball player. When there's two college baseball games sandwiched around the ceremony, that makes the day even better. In game 1, the Oklahoma Sooners fell behind the USD Toreros early, but came from behind for a win. In game 2, the SDSU Aztecs got great pitching to shut down the Michigan Wolverines. I went by myself, accompanied by a large bag of peanuts and another of Starburst candy. What a day!
