Denver Broncos @ San Diego Chargers

Broncos @ Chargers

Hey I love that ticket guarantee! The "CITY" you see on the ticket means this was one of the tickets the city of San Diego bought in order to make the game a sellout, thus ensuring this game would be on TV locally. Unfortunately, the 33-17 final score that favored the Broncos was not very ratings friendly. I went with Joy to this game, and we ended up leaving early in order to not be late for an appointing.

Florida Marlins @ San Diego Padres

Tony Gwynn: Celebration 3,000

Celebration 3,000! There was a pre-game celebration recognizing Tony Gwynn's 3,000th hit, which he achieved a few days earlier in Montreal. When Gwynn finally got to speak, the first thing he did was apologize to the Marlins for delaying the start of the game. It didn't seem to effect them though, because the Marlins beat the Padres 4-3. Padres starter Brian Boehringer left with an injury and would not pitch again until the 2000 season. Joy and I went to this game and sat in the front row behind center field.

San Diego Padres @ Anaheim Angels

Padres @ Angels - Interleague

To most, this just looks like another July baseball game. To our family, it was very special. All the Stoops boys went to this game. Grandfather decided we should all go to a game together. So there we were, 8 Stoops sitting in the upper deck on the first base line. The game was good too. In the 10th inning, Ruben Rivera smashed a 3-run homer that gave the Padres a 4-1 lead that Trevor Hoffman would preserve. A great way to end a game that ended up being the last I would watch with Grandfather.
